Glenwood Springs, CO

After leaving Moab, UT we drove part way back to Denver and stopped in Glenwood Springs, CO. The resort there dates from 1900 and features two pools fed from mineral springs. The water comes out of the ground at 122 degrees...the 'smaller' pool is 104 degrees while the larger (400' x 50') is 90 degrees.

Canyonlands National Park

After two days at Arches National Park we pulled up stakes and drove into Moab, UT and parked the RV at Canyonlands RV Center. A 30 mile drive to us to Dead Horse Canyon State Park and Canyonlands National Park. The difference in geography between these parks and Arches is astounding given they are only 45 miles apart. These are mini-Grand Canyons, 2,000 ft deep.

Dead Horse Canyon is a rocky peninsula 1,000 ft above a flat plan which in turn is 1,000 ft above the canyon floor. The Green and Colorado Rivers meet there.

Arches National Park, Utah

We had an RV pad reservation at Arches National Park just north of Moab, UT. There are no hook-ups (water, electric) in the National Parks which made it pretty rustic. There are over 2,000 arches throughout the park and their sheer size is somewhat overwhelming. We hiked to or through a number of arches. There are no guard rails or park rangers to tell you what to do or not do. Everything is in its natural state.

Enroute to Utah

After two days in Breckenridge getting use to the altitude, we continued west towards Utah. Driving through Glenwood Canyon is an experience! Interstate 70 snakes through the canyon following the Colorado River. This is the most expensive part of the entire U.S. Interstate system.

After entering Utah, we decided to take the "scenic route" to Moab instead of I-70 ('scenic' being a relative word). The canyons we drove through enroute were breathtaking.

Breckenridge, CO

On Saturday the 22nd, we joined up with BJ and Bob King at Nolan's RV Center in Denver. The plan was to rent an RV and drive to Canyonlands in SE Utah. We drove about 75 mi west to Breckenridge, CO and spent the first two nights at Tiger Run RV Center. Jan and Steve rented a cabin there, too. The next day the four of us (Bob, BJ, Pam, John) went hiking on the Spruce Creek Trail. This begins at the 10,000 ft level and continues upward. Needless to say, breathing becomes an ordeal. We had to stop often just to catch our breath.

Pam & John's Excellent Adventure - Loveland, CO

On Sept 19th, we flew to Denver, CO to visit Pam's sister Jan (and to celebrate both of their birthdays). Pam's is on the 19th and Jan's is on the 12th. We had a great time visiting with Jan and Steve and toured the Loveland, CO area.
